The end of the year is usually a time of reflection. Taking a momen to see all that we've accomplished or the memories we've made over the year. As a cake designer/maker/baker, I tend to measure the year in cake designs. For the final year's blog post, I want to make it more of a visual one. To celebrate all the creativity I had a hand in this year and a reminder of the memories I helped make to those that celebrated a milestone this year. Ever wanted a cake with a cool image on it but the cake artist you went to said they didn't have the artistic oomph to make it happen? That's where edible printing comes in, a great technology that is making it's way onto cakes and is becoming more and more common. Think cakes, cookies or cupcakes with images of you for your birthday or a logo to celebrate the opening of a business. There are many occasions edible printed images could be used for, they can add those small details that put the cherry-on-top when it comes to your party decor. Halloween is the perfect season to host a party. It's especially fun because this is an occasion where you can go ALL out. There is so much you can create using cupcakes and candies like worms, and multi-colored M&M's. We got some fun requests around this time of year that we thought it a perfect occasion to show you some of the custom Halloween cake designs, or "ghoulish Halloween cakes" as I like to call them. Wedding cakes don't have to be all dressed up to get a big wow factor, in fact sometimes simple wedding cakes do just that in their simple get up. How does it work and what are considered simple wedding cakes? They are, as you may have guessed, cakes that utilize very simple details which add to their wow factor. Often times they use very little color, most simple wedding cakes we've made have been white most have plain details and every once in a while you can also add more complicated touches. 

How do you pair one of these simple cakes with your wedding decor? Well, there are many functions for a simple wedding cake, but it works especially well if you are selecting to go with more intricate decor. Executing good wedding decor involves making educated decisions and it's always a good idea to look at the big picture. Also, make sure you get second opinions from those you trust the most. Weddings are not easy to plan but coordinating the right decor and knowing when you use simple wedding cakes are all a part of the fun. Weddings are usually all about the bride, but the groom should get a little love as well especially when it comes to selecting the perfect grooms cake. Some of you might even be wondering why grooms cakes event exist. According to tradition, it's a gift from the bride to the groom that reflects an aspect of his personality and interests, all wrapped up into his favorite cake flavor. The grooms cake is usually displayed next to the wedding cake and is typically cut later and placed in to-go boxes for guests to take home. It's safe to say a grooms cake is the new modern way to represent the groom during a wedding's festivities.

What do we like best about the grooms cakes? Well it's definitely that you can get as creative as you want. Be it because of their neat single serving nature, many brides are opting to go with cupcake wedding cakes, and why not!? They look pretty, are simple to serve and guests love them.

How do you plan for having a cupcake wedding cake at your celebration? First you'll want to determine how many guests you will have and decide whether you want guests to have more than one cupcake or whether you want to order enough for people to take home or have more than one. Also keep in mind that no every single guest loves dessert as much as the next person.

Holy chocolate covered cake, Batman! Lately, we've noticed an increase in orders for chocolate covered cakes and it led us to place them on our list of cake trends for 2016. It seems chocolate covered party trends are growing in popularity and why not!? They are so unexpected they pop. Most people don't expect to see a chocolate covered cake at an elegant affair like a wedding or shower, so it creates a great element of surprise, and a source for good conversation. We really like to use chocolate as a canvas for creating gorgeous color. Opt for the sculpting benefits of chocolate fondant or indulge in the heavenly flavor of chocolate buttercream, both can be used to turn out some very whimsical and romantic styles, just take a look at some of the ones we've created.

The only warning we'd give you if you are considering one of these beautiful chocolate covered creations, is to reserve this option for indoor celebrations, or for outdoor ones in which the temperatures won't be scorching. The last thing you want to do is serve a melting cake. Other than that, chocolate lovers rejoice!
