Who says the bride is the one who gets to have all the fun? Modern media often portrays the bride-to-be as a bridezilla who has her hands in everything, while the groom sits idly by and shakes his head. Well, in the Bay Area, we are far beyond the traditional, and always encourage couples to enjoy the entire process together! Part of that is allowing the groom to have a bit of the limelight as well. One way to do this is for the groom to have a groom’s cake, (in addition to the wedding cake). A groom’s cake differs from the traditional wedding cake in that it can take a variety of forms, and can be fun and whimsical. It is a time for the groom to ensure that his favorite flavor, color, design, sport, etc. is included in the wedding. The groom’s cake is often served at a separate table from the wedding cake at the reception, though it is often also served at the rehearsal dinner. Here are a few of the favorite groom’s cakes that we have done and others for inspiration! Selecting your cake should not be overwhelming or stressful, it should be fun! Below are three quick tips on making the experience tasty and enjoyable.
Your Baker is Your Friend Select a Baker that you feel comfortable with and have good repoire with. Although we highly recommend Cakes By M.E., we recognize that the most important aspect of picking the best cake for your wedding is to have good repoire with your baker. It is also important that the baker is reputable, and has experience in wedding cakes. To check out their reputation, we recommend looking at their website to see testimonials from previous clients, or their business on Yelp.com. Timing is Everything Timing is everything when planning an event. We recommend that you have plenty of time to speak with your baker, go to a cake tasting, and confirm that they have a clear understanding of your vision, as well as being able to deliver the cake on your wedding date. Three to six months is generally enough time. We recommend that you select your baker as soon as you have selected your wedding date to begin the process. Don’t let the timeline concern you though, that is our job! The selection part should be fun for you. We will schedule a time for you and your partner to come in and have a tasting. Once we narrow down the cake, we will work on the design. Get Inspired: Colors, Themes, and Seasons If you are drawing a blank when it comes to the design or cake flavor, we recommend getting back to basics: What is the color theme of your wedding? Is the décor of your wedding classic, edgy, natural, or ornate? It helps some couples to look at other designs via Pinterest, bridal magazines, etc.; but sometimes it can be overwhelming. It is also completely fine to come to a tasting with absolutely no idea what you want. We can help guide you! Happy Tasting! |
